Achieve Your Outcomes
The two outcomes Catio is used for, the workflow behind each, and where to start.
Catio is used to reach two outcomes. Each one has a workflow that strings the product together end to end, so you can start from what you are trying to achieve rather than from a feature.
If you are new to Catio, start with Welcome to Catio and the Quick Start. If you already know what you are after, pick the outcome below.
| Outcome | What it gets you | Start here |
|---|---|---|
| Optimize your architecture | A large architecture decision (cost, rationalization, modernization, integration, separation) taken from mandate to a committed, tracked Plan, on evidence your team validated | Optimize Your Architecture |
| Build to aligned specs | Changes that ship as designed: requirements carried from a Blueprint into the coding IDE and through to the pull request, without being re-inferred along the way | Architecture-Led AI SDLC Workflow |
The two connect. Optimizing your architecture ends in a committed Plan; the engineering changes in that Plan are built through the Architecture-Led AI SDLC.
Optimize your architecture
For the chief architect, platform lead, or technology executive who owns a decision about an estate that already runs: what to keep, change, consolidate, or remove, in what order, and why.
The workflow at a glance
| Phase | What happens | Where it happens in Catio |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Discovery and inventory | Frame the mandate, scope the workspace, encode goals and constraints, and build the live model of the estate | Workspaces, Context, Integrations, Stacks |
| 2. Analysis | State the mandate as a prompt and let Catio generate the Plan, then validate and shape every Blueprint in it | Blueprints, Plans, Archie |
| 3. Prioritization | Walk stakeholders through the Plan, sequence it into waves, and commit it as the plan of record | Plans, Sublists |
| 4. Execution and feedback | Track the Plan as it ships, review by exception, and feed what you learn back into Context | Catio MCP, Context |
Done when: a committed Plan exists that your team validated, sequenced, and owns, and the work in it is tracked to completion.
Start with Optimize Your Architecture.
Build to aligned specs
For the architect who owns a change and the engineer who builds it. The design is settled in Catio, then pulled into the coding IDE through the Catio MCP, so the code is written against the spec and against your real architecture.
The workflow at a glance
| Stage | What happens | Where it happens |
|---|---|---|
| Encode intent | Requirements, standards, and guardrails go into Context | Context |
| Generate and commit the design | A requirement becomes a Blueprint, validated and committed as the spec of record | Blueprints, Plans |
| Pull the spec into the editor | The developer retrieves the committed Blueprint through the MCP | Surfacing and Acting on Blueprints through the Catio MCP |
| Generate the code and open the PR | The assistant writes against the spec and the real inventory, then opens a pull request for review by exception | Generating Architecture-Aware Code with Catio MCP |
Done when: a pull request implements a committed Blueprint, reuses what you already run, and is traceable back to that Blueprint.
